Sculpture Elective

I have decided that my work looks best placed on a pale grey background, I believe it adds to the work and doesn't take from the pieces. For me when I look at my work it give me a sense of regurgitation, somethings that's being spewed and washed up from the shore. I have photographed my pieces from above as well as ground level, I believe the photos taken from ground level almost look like there pulsating and expanding taking over in a sinister way.

I have continued to making a second sequence to my piece, I have begun to look at backgrounds and how they influence my pieces as well as the how they interact with there surroundings. I will be placing my pieces on the ground slightly elevated to give the illusion that they could possible be swaying.

Sculpture Elective

Over the last few days I have been exploring other materials. I have been burning/melting white plastic sacks with a controlled amount of heat using a heat gun.

I am pleased with the results, it reminds me of something thats being washed up from the sea, its very textured hard yet very slight in places. It comes across as gross and repulsive almost something that has been spewed.

I like the idea of this piece being slightly elevated a few inch's off the ground almost like its floating.  I placed my piece on a neutral background it blends in almost like a riverbed something eroded just floating. I also placed my piece in a window just to reflect the light exploring the effect of light and shade on the piece.

Piece placed against a window - for me it changes the piece, im looking at light and shade, connections, positive and negitives it also reminds me of bodily tissue.

Sculpture Elective

Over the last couple of days I have sourced material to burn such as paper, fabric, plastics. I want to explore how the materials can be manipulated and take different forms. With a controlled amount of heat I want to take the materials and change their physical characteristics. Throughout the next few days I want to go larger with my pieces, look more at forms that can be produced as well as possibly introducing colour.

Burnt plastic/ silk - I was really excited about the change in the appearance of this material it bubbled and dropped in on itself creating forms. I can see alot of potential with this material so I'm hoping to work with it within the next week.

Nylon - This piece below burned  hard shiny black spots into the piece which I found interesting which I intend to explore more.

Sculpture Elective

Monday I began Sculpture, I was given an information sheet in which I was required to pursue a sustained enquiry into my five senses or my vital signs. The words we explored were sight, smell, touch, taste, hearing, temperature, respiration, pulse and blood pressure.  So we began by using mind maps to explore the each word as well as looking at the opposite of each word. We then began to pull the verbs from each sheet and note the ones that engage us most. So the words that I had chosen were to distort, to destroy, to burn, to transform and to conceal.
Today I have narrowed my words to burn and transform.  So I am going to start by burning materials and see how they transform and to see what forms they take, which could be interesting to push the materials to there limits.

Animation Elective

This is the start of my storyboard, by tomorrow I will have finished my animation piece (Video) so I then can finish the storyboard ending. Because of the type of doll I am using she has limitations on how I can animate her and so my storyboard ending has changed slightly over the week.

Today I have decided to make a short 2D stop motion video of the doll walking.
