Animation Elective

I began my brief on Monday, my storyline be is "I opened the door and there was my porcelain doll rocking in the chair"

I have began by researching evil doll characters such as Childs Play "Chucky", Dolly Dearest and Demonic Toys as well as others. When I'm looking at these characters I am looking at body lanuage, there expression, music and sound used to intensify a scene, and the overall aesthetics of the films.

I've drawn up my storyboard and have began to look at the backdrop for my animation. I want to base the set up of the room on a childs bedroom so I have placed toys and teddys behind the small rocking chair in which the doll is placed. I wanted to keep the scene dark with a hit of light that picks up the important features of the scene. I have darkend down the dolls eyes with makeup to give that errie sense. Within the first scene I have placed the doll rocking unaware of anyones presence and then within moments she spots me walking through the door.

here are a few images i am using as a starting point for my animation.

She gradually notices she has been seen.

Ceramic Elective

These are clay pieces that were influenced by my forms and drawing in which I made at the start of my two weeks.

This is the Kiln we used before we Raku our clay pieces. When these pieces are ready to come out using a tongs they are placed into tin bins where sawdust is spread over and the lid is then placed on to compress the air. The end result is beautiful where the smoke had broke through the glaze and leaves a lines almost like a map.

Ceramic Elective

We were introduced to trowing clay on the wheel last week as well as the pug mill which recycles clay scraps.

slug's for trowing

We began trowing 5cm clay in equal amounts. I started by throwing the clay with a bit of force, the foot pedal's each side act as an accelerator. I continuously added water as I placed my left hand to the side of the clay and applied pressure to gain control of the clay and shape the form of the bowl. Pushing with the heel of my hand, I slowed it down and slide my finger to the centre of the clay minding not to hit the base. I started to lift a grove and started to lift it out to form the bowls outer frame. I then used the kidney to shape and clean the bowl up pushing towards the edge of the rib. I used a sponge to tidy it up and used a wire cutter placing pressure on the base to slice the bowl from the  plate. I then lowered my fingers and tilt and lift off gently

Ceramic Elective

On Monday we were introduced to the Ceramic Elective. Initially we began by creating forms using clay and from there I had to choose three pieces that had most interest to me and the most possiblities to develop further. Here are a few sample pieces that i have explored -

At the start of the year i wanted to create the bark of the tree using paper (greaseproof type paper) in which I wanted to create a layering effect of the bark. I also cut into areas of the paper to create the dept of the bark and create a shading effect.

I used chickenwire to create volume within piece.
